For that story, no. I entered it to do something new really. I hadn't entered any writing competitions before and was enticed by the guarantee of the judges' feedback. But there was something to forcing myself to write a story within the confines of the competition. I was looking for that challenge. And fitting anything into 250-words was a serious struggle.
This year I copped out and thought, "Let me try 500-words. That's got to be easier." LOL

For this year, I am planning to revise the story and include it in a collection of short stories that I'm working on now. Most of the stories are averaging around 4,500 words, so I think having some shorter, lighter pieces, in the collection will make for a better reading experience.
Great and useful feedback. Not sure how you'd do those changes and stay within the word count limit. Do you have a revised version?
