Gates of Fire is one of my all time favorites. I also enjoyed The Afghan Campaign.

Gates of Fire changed my life. I actually talk a bit about that in a recent interview I participated in. I'll share the link below. I've read all of Pressfield. The Afghan Campain is tied with Last of the Amazons for my third favorite. Tides of War is a close second, right behind GoF.

Here's my interview on Beyond the Medium with Mike Reynolds. We discuss my transition from the Corps to fine art, influence and process, and I even make some recs for literature we should send in a capsule to make first contact with aliens. It was a lot of fun, and I hope you enjoy it.

Semper Fidelis,

Thanks for the link. I will give it a listen today. Love hearing stories from fellow vets who have taken up a pursuit of the arts.

Thanks, Matthew! I do appreciate it. You'll like Mike, the host, too. We worked together years ago and became good friends. He's still in uniform and one of the Corps' Combat Artist in addition to his day job (our gig in uniform) which is an Ammunition Officer. Solid dude, killer artist, and all-around talent. I've commissioned several original pieces from Mike, and he's been one of my advance readers from jump. Forty Mike Mike Art, if you want to check out any of his work.
